The Monochromatic Look

This simply refers to a shade of a style in one color or different shades of a  particular color.

Irrespective of the occasion or the season ,whether worn in a traditional attire , or in a street style, this style is here to stay if rocked correctly.

Some fashion seasons ago, this was considered as being too matchy matchy. But now it has never been more appropriate.

A trick to rocking this trend is  to mix and match a balance of hues so as not  to look overpowering.

A lighter shade can be paired on top a darker shade bottom. Like a dark blue blouse atop a light blue trousers , then dark shade shoes.

These pictures should hopefully provide some inspiration.

Oh by the way , black and white and grey are  also considered monochromatic shades. we shall dwell on that in a later blog

Versatile Staples That Should Be in Your Wardrobe

Pencil Skirt:  You won’t go wrong with a pencil knee length skirt, weather in black or grey color, every woman should own a piece of this. It is so versatile; it can be paired with a solid blouse as against the regular corporate long sleeve shirt tucked in with a tiny belt. For going out with the girls it can be paired with crop tops or tees.

Polka Dot Blouse: There is no finer way of pumping up an office wear. It can be worn tucked into a straight navy skirt or pants.

Statement Necklace: This is a staple for native attires but a more subtle design can be worn for office use.

Bright Colored Handbag:  Practically every woman owns a classic black bag, but the bright colored bag is in a class of its own. It can work from office to casual use.

Classic flats: We all love heels and stilettos, but there are days we feel like taking a break, that’s when the flats come in handy. They work with virtually every outfit. Pick a pair that has some sparkle or studs or some kind of drama to jazz up that outfit.

Black Leggings:  This is as versatile as they come. Perfect for those lazy days when you can’t be bothered to make an effort. It can be worn with a loose fitting blouse or underneath a short dress.

Dark jeans:  Enough said. This is simply timeless, be it flared, skinny or the boyfriend jean.

The pointed Toes Heels: Pumps are cool; but the pointed heels are so sexy.

A Regular Black Jacket or Blazer:  This is a must-have in a fashionable woman’s wardrobe. It can totally alter an outfit. That cheap tee shirt can look like a million bucks when styled with a blazer.  Works on jeans and office wears.

Welcome to TheGeeklyChics Blog!

This blog is meant to discuss fashionable living on a budget. You know we don’t have to break the bank to look chic or even go for that much craved vacation.

Often times we see celebrities looking all glamed up from their hair to the dress to the makeup. We think to ourselves …I would look that good or even better if I had that kind of money.

Truth is style is very personal. What is quirky and outlandish to one could be style and fun to another. It all depends on how all the pieces come together, and might I add how much Swagger you can muster with it. It is also about your body type and acknowledging what flatters you the most, from head or is it hair to toe.

It also is knowing what is age-appropriate.

So many times we see a particular style that is real cool and chic and admire it so much. Now that’s ok. What’s not ok is wearing that style even though it’s not appropriate for your body type.

With that said, join me as we put our heads together on a budget and see how we too can blend fashionably.

Welcome onboard!
